Blood pressure Monitor Reviews

IMG_1563It’s estimated that one in three Americans has high blood pressure. And based on the JNC 8 guidelines, nearly half of all adults with hypertension are estimated to be above goal.

To help more effectively manage high blood pressure, many physicians and healthcare professionals, myself included, recommend home blood pressure monitoring. Many patients with hypertension proactively engage in home blood pressure monitoring as well.

The iHealth Wireless Blood Pressure Monitor was one of the first smartphone compatible blood pressure monitors on the market. Here, we’ll take a close look at this device to help you figure it out if it’s the right choice for your patient. Also, we demonstrate to patients how to use this device to show your physician your blood pressure trends.

The Device

The iHealth Blood Pressure Monitor is designed as a cuff through which you slide your arm, using the strap to tighten it in position. There are a few features of the design I particularly appreciated, like the arrows reminding me how to orient the cuff on my arm or the image on the outer part of the cuff showing me where to position it on my arm.

Out of the box, applying the monitor wasn’t entirely intuitive as I could see users who are acclimated to traditional cuffs being confused about how exactly to apply this one. Once you understand how to open the device and create the space through which your arm is supposed to go, the monitor is subsequently easy to use and on the arm, it’s surprisingly light and comfortable.
